(Amaryllidaceae)
Distinctive and showy white to rose pink blooms arranged in a dense cluster on a stem growing much shorter than the leaves, often resting on the ground. Blooming shortly after snow melt from April to July.
Found growing in rocky and open sunny sites from foothills to alpine tundra. I have collected some high elevation seed but unless requested it will be coming from from below 8,000 ft.
Excellent choice for pollinator gardens as most Bombus enjoy it. B. appositus, centralis, bifarius, flavifrons, fervidus, huntii, melanopygus, nevadensis, sylvicola, occidentalis and bohemis are known to visit.
Collected In: Summit & Wasatch County, Utah
Wild or Homegrown: Wild
Seasonality: April-June, Following snowmelt
Germination: 60-90 days cool-moist(37-41°) stratification either in the fridge folded in single paper towel or a small but deep container filled with potting soil, like a yogurt container, then cover the seeds slightly with soil and leave it in the fridge for the full 90 days unless they germinate first. Leave the seedlings in the container until they are a few inches tall, then simply empty and gently separate the bulbs to plant where desired.
