(Asteraceae)

Low Sagebrush is our favorite garden/home variety along with Mountain Big.

It's a well-mannered xeric evergreen shrub. The main difference between Mountain Big will be overall size, this grows much lower (8-16" tall) and smaller; therefore, it will not attract as much wildlife, birds or provide as much food etc. This is a great border or meadow plant and also tolerates slightly more xeric conditions than Mountain Big.

Particularly liking mountain slopes, basins and ridges that receive 10-26 inches of annual precipitation. This shrub grows in drier locations than Big Sagebrush and higher areas with more moisture than Black Sagebrush prefers, you'll often find it mingling with Mountain Big Sagebrush.

Collected In: Summit County, Utah

Wild or Homegrown: Wild

Seasonality: Evergreen, Autumn bloom

Germination: No pre-treatment required. Sow on the surface or up to 1/4 deep then cover with a thin layer of sand. Surface broadcasting onto snow or soil in the Fall or early Winter and then pressing down or raking the seed into the soil produces the best results. Seedlings are easy to establish but don't tolerate root disturbance and might need some protection from predators
