(Fabaceae)
Bright pink to purple and magenta flowers on loose or dense woolly mats. The flowers turn to fuzzy/woolly pods that persist around the plant into the Fall. Very similar to Utah Milkvetch.
Growing in deep rocky and gravelly soil within sage-steppe and the edges of Aspen forest and open, rocky, hillsides and flats. Usually in shade for a third of the day. Growing with several Artemisia, several Castilleja, Rock Goldenrod and Antelope Bitterbrush.
This variety is imperiled in Utah mostly due to habitat loss. It is restricted to the Western half of its species range, excluding California. This is a higher elevation population, about 1,500 ft higher than it's described distribution. Still with excellent drought tolerance and may exhibit superior cold and wind hardiness.

Germination: Scarify with fine to medium grit sandpaper then sow 1/8-1/4 inch deep and cover with a thin layer of sand. Use humidity domes so you don't have to water as much. Do not overwater.
