Mountain Brome, Bromus marginatus. This cool season, perennial bunchgrass grows fast and is short lived (3-7 years) Grows best from 5,000 to 13,000 ft.

The seeds are relished by birds and the forage by all sorts of wildlife, being less desirable at maturity. A very nice meadow grass, or 'softer' ornamental. It's not competitive and is an excellent companion plant to other native plants. Try planting in filtered sun with lupine and your other favorite flowers. Large seeds, soft blades, palatable, a nice and safe grass for the yard.

Likes areas with at least 18in. of annual precipitation but does not like to be waterlogged. Grows 1-3 ft. tall.

Likes shade enough to be planted in full shade and looks particularly nice under low growing trees. Though it is a bit more water thirsty than the other cool season grasses we sell it's still xeric in full sun at the nursery at 6,500 ft. It is a nice addition around trees to keep the soil shady and cool and doesn't require any extra watering than you would normally give your trees. A nice native orchard grass.
