(Asparagaceae)
Beautiful rich blue to blue-violet flowers on single stems around 12-16 inches tall. Growing on a sloped silver sage and mules ear meadow, surrounded by oak and aspen forest above wet mountain meadow. Rocky loam in full sun, likely more drought tolerant than most other Camassia. Sensitive to development and livestock, this plant was once much more abundant in Utah, especially in the Kamas Valley and around the Idaho Border. Takes 2-3+ years to bloom when grown from seed.
An extremely valuable plant for habitat restoration and pollinators.
Collected In: Wasatch County, Utah
Wild or Homegrown: Wild
Germination: 60-90 days cold-moist(33-37°) stratification either in the fridge folded in single paper towel or a small but deep container filled with potting soil, like a yogurt container, then cover the seeds slightly with soil and leave it in the fridge for the full 90 days unless they germinate first. Leave the seedlings in the container until they are a few inches tall, then simply empty and gently separate the bulbs to plant where desired.
