Eriogonum heracleoides var. heracleoides (Whorled Buckwheat)

An extremely versatile and varied plant. Found commonly in open and rocky flats, and hillsides throughout the Wasatch back in or adjacent to sage steppe. Blooming pale yellow, cream, rose pink to pink May, June and into July. Usually by the end of July they are dried but still colorful. Drying to shades of pink, cream, and shades of sienna and ochre.

One of the best plants for Spring butterflies, the only plant I consistently see as much pollinator activity on as the Cirsium genus. 

A keystone species and ecological powerhouse. Drought and cold tolerance, tolerates deep snow for 6+ months of the year. Major butterfly host plant but hummingbirds, flies, beetles, bees, and bumblebees all visit this plant. Dense roots and spreads by seed and layering -- great for weed suppression and erosion control. Top-choice for restoration efforts. Generally unbothered by livestock and deer. 

Excellent for rock and pollinator gardens. Recommended to plant one every 5-7 sqft.
